Flooding is one of the costliest natural hazards, yet many homeowners remain uninsured against it. PBR Opportunities—Webinar Series Begins July 29; August VM-22 Forum The Life Practice Council (LPC) is offering opportunities for principle-based reserving (PBR) education, including a webinar series and next month’s VM-22 Practitioners Forum. ▶ Webinar, July 29—The LPC will kick off its PBR webinar series on July 29 with PBR in Practice: A Practical Look at PBA Projections, which will be moderated by previous life vice president Jason Kehrberg, a member of the Life Reserves Subcommittee. Register today. ▶ VM-22 Practitioners Forum, Aug. 26, Denver—Next month’s VM-22 Practitioners Forum is designed for life actuaries who are past the introductory phase and ready to sharpen their understanding of VM-22 by connecting with peers navigating the same terrain. It will be held in Denver on Aug. 26, following the Society of Actuaries Valuation Actuary meeting (SOA ValAct). ▶ Research & Climate, July 14—Natural Disaster Risk and Resilience, a research webinar moderated by Research Committee Chairperson Peter Ott, will feature presenters from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Part two of the Academy’s industry-university cooperative research centers (IUCRC) webinar series will spotlight the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Convective Storms (CIRCS) and the Center for Innovation in Risk, Catastrophes, and Decisions (CIRCAD). The series, which kicked off last month, is highlighting NSF’s IUCRCs, a cooperative program made up of academic researchers who work with an industry-led advisory board to evaluate research projects to improve the ability of the insurance industry to manage climate risk.
