Professionalism Counts: Preventing Misuse of Your Work As part of this year’s recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Code of Professional Conduct, the latest Professionalism Counts column, Preventing Misuse of Your Work, explains that because principals and other stakeholders make critical decisions based on actuarial services, actuaries bear a special responsibility not only to take appropriate steps to ensure that actuarial communications are clear and appropriate for the circumstances and the intended audience, but also to take reasonable steps to prevent them from being misused or misinterpreted. | | |
Professionalism Outreach to Employers Continues The Academy’s professionalism outreach to employers continued with Committee on Qualifications member Michelle Iarkowski presenting “A Professionalism Passport” to the Everest Group on July 9. The innovative presentation used the analogy of a plane trip to discuss professionalism as a process, from the pre-flight check (the Code of Professional Conduct) all the way through baggage claim (professionalism questions that actuaries may need to ask themselves after the journey). ▶ Speakers Bureau—The Academy is available to provide speakers to actuarial clubs, employers, and educational entities. The Speakers Bureau provides qualified speakers on professionalism and public policy topics. | | |
