Actuarial Standard of Practice (ASOP) No. 41, Actuarial Communications, touches nearly every assignment an actuary works on, but its requirements call for professional judgment on the actuary’s part. Many actuaries have questions about how to implement it, particularly around disclosures.

This webinar featured Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline (ABCD) vice chairpersons Jan Carstens and Rick Block, who discussed ASOP No. 41 through the lens of their experiences on the ABCD. Using case studies and examples based on requests for guidance and cases submitted to the ABCD, they discussed documentation and communication in environments that have caused actuaries to seek counseling and guidance on how to apply the ASOP. Attendees gained greater clarity on what ASOP No. 41 means and how it applies in daily practice.
