What Do the Newly Released Trustees’ Reports Mean for the Financial Health of Social Security and Medicare? Actuarial Experts Available to Break It Down

The 2014 Social Security and Medicare trustees’ reports highlight the need for Congress and the administration to address the financial condition of these programs now. Continuing to put off reform efforts will only lead to the need for more drastic corrective measures in the future. Despite a slowdown in health care spending in recent years, the Medicare trustees’ report shows that Medicare continues to face significant solvency and sustainability issues. Social Security also faces financial challenges that will need to be addressed to ensure its long-term viability. The American Academy of Actuaries continues to examine key policy options to help ensure the financial health of these important programs.
