Details on the Academy’s engagement in Minneapolis will be available in the regular post-meeting webinar (posted soon) and in an upcoming update on Actuarially Sound, the Academy’s blog. The Academy’s work with the NAIC is also reflected in the July/August issue of Contingencies, which features the first installment of a two-part interview with NAIC President Jon Godfread, Nebraska Insurance Commissioner Eric Dunning, Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Nathan Houdek, and NAIC President-Elect Scott White. They discuss key regulatory priorities, emerging risks, and the evolving insurance landscape-charting a path forward through innovation, consumer protection, and risk management. The second installment, in the upcoming September/October issue of Contingencies, highlights the vital connection between the NAIC and the Academy, as well as the critical role actuaries play in the insurance regulation space. The Academy also networked with regulators and stakeholders throughout the meeting. One of the most popular events was the Academy’s Sunday lawn-bowling gathering. More than 60 Academy volunteers, insurance commissioners, state regulators, NAIC staff, and even a state legislator lawn bowled. The Academy participated in a breakfast meeting with Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Mike Humphreys, where he discussed the next steps in developing a proposed AI model regulation and the need for continued stakeholder collaboration on AI governance. | | | |

Your Input Wanted on Potentially Disruptive Events The Academy’s Disruptive Events Task Force is seeking input on potentially disruptive events, defined as organization-wide emergencies and disasters or positive developments that are not covered by routine measures and that are generally caused by natural or artificial circumstances-that is, events that cause current actuarial models to no longer be effective. The task force was set up by the Academy’s Strategic Planning Committee to identify a process to help actuaries in responding to disruptive events that may create a significant reputational risk to the profession. Examples include the 2024 Change Healthcare data breach and the California wildfires, but could also include developments such as potential breakthrough medical cures. Visit the Potentially Disruptive Events webpage to submit your input.
