Health Equity Committee Seeks Volunteers
The Health Equity Committee, led by chairperson and Academy Board member Annette James, has an ambitious agenda and needs health actuaries interested in contributing to its efforts. Prospective volunteers don’t necessarily need experience in health equity issues; rather, the committee is looking for those with experience in one of its areas of focus-health insurance benefit design; health plan pricing; provider contracting and network development; or population health management. Save the Date-2023 Seminar on Effective P/C Loss Reserve Opinions
Save the date for the Seminar on Effective P/C Loss Reserve Opinions, which will be held Dec. 4-5 in Charlotte, N.C. The annual seminar is designed for property/casualty actuaries who prepare or assist with preparing National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) annual statements of actuarial opinion on P/C loss reserves. Called the “best seminar of the year-if you’re not attending, you’re missing the best CE you will ever get,” the seminar will provide the latest information about regulations and standards that apply, and will help you gain an understanding of regulatory perspectives and expectations. Registration will open in June.
HPC Releases Pair of Documents After Medicare Trustees Report
The Health Practice Council (HPC) released an issue brief, Medicare’s Financial Condition: Beyond Actuarial Balance, and an Essential Elements paper, Medicare’s Long-Term Sustainability Challenge, following the recent release of the Medicare Trustees Report. These documents are intended to give audiences a ground-level actuarial view of this annual report.

ICYMI-Professionalism Paper Looks at Considerations for Working in Developing Areas of Actuarial Practice
The Committee on Professional Responsibility released a paper, Professionalism Considerations for Working in Developing Areas of Actuarial Practice, as part of its ongoing discussion series. The paper is intended to raise awareness of the requirements of the U.S. Qualification Standards with respect to work in emerging areas and to help actuaries determine whether they are qualified to practice in a developing area.
