Here is another puzzle from Bob Fink and Jerry Miccolis.
Aloha! This puzzle might best be savored on a tropical beach, under a swaying palm tree, while sipping a cool, refreshing mai tai—indeed, the very conditions under which it was conceived. But we hope you enjoy it wherever you may happen to be.
The six long Across entries comprise the puzzle’s theme. They are unclued, unconventional phrases. We don’t expect you to be able to derive them solely from their crossing Down entries, so we’ve provided some additional solving aids. First, the six theme entries share a distinctive feature. Second, this common feature is strongly hinted at by the 11 circled letters in the properly completed grid—but they need to be unjumbled, and when they are, they will spell the title of a popular TV show that ran for over 30 (non-contiguous) years. Third, we provide additional hints below, in random order relative to their respective entries:
- Alohas upon arrival?
- Alohas upon departure?
- Unlikely luau souvenir?
- Diligent Diamond Head defender?
- Tiny bubbles?
- Body of work displayed on “Aquaman” movie posters?
The non-theme entries are all common words or phrases, and each of the words is playable in Scrabble except for one proper name and one English phrase borrowed from Latin. As always, be wary of punctuation in the clues, which can be deceptive.
