Academy Unveils Content Addressing Social Security, Medicare Trustees Reports
Earlier this month, the Social Security and Medicare Boards of Trustees issued their annual reports on the financial status of the Social Security and Medicare programs. The reports showed that the Medicare Hospital Insurance (HI) Trust Fund will have sufficient funds to cover its obligations until 2036, and that the combined retirement and disability programs of Social Security have sufficient reserves to fully cover benefits until 2035.
The Social Security Committee released an updated monograph and issue brief on individual equity and social adequacy as those principles apply to Social Security reform options. The monograph and issue brief compare three different Social Security reform proposals using individual equity and social adequacy-two of the important principles underlying the program-and provide details on each of the proposals and examine the data used in the illustrations.
