Matson Succeeds 2024-25 President Darrell Knapp

WASHINGTON—Patricia (Tricia) Matson, MAAA, FSA, of New London, Conn.,took office as 2025-26 president of the American Academy of Actuaries on Nov. 21, succeeding 2024-25 President Darrell Knapp, MAAA, FSA, to lead the U.S. national professional association of actuaries with more than 20,000 members across all actuarial practice areas.

In inaugural presidential remarks at the Academy’s Leadership Summit and Governance Transition event in Washington, D.C., she said: “First and foremost, we must recognize that we operate in an era of unprecedented change and uncertainty. The challenges we face—and the opportunities before us—are unlike anything previous generations of actuaries have encountered. Data analytics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, climate change, demographic shifts, and rapidly evolving regulations are transforming every aspect of our work. The Academy must be at the forefront of helping the profession navigate these changes while ensuring we continue to serve the public interest with objectivity and integrity.”

Matson has been an active Academy volunteer for more than 20 years, including previously serving on the Academy’s Board of Directors and as chairperson of the Actuarial Standards Board. She is a partner at Risk & Regulatory Consulting LLC.
