The Academy published a new quarterly newsletter, Academy Insights, intended for nonmember stakeholders including those in government and public policy organizations. The newsletter offers a big-picture view of the Academy’s work in both public policy and professionalism. The inaugural issue covered the Hill visits, Insurance Investment Summit, Contingencies and The Record, and the Academy’s ongoing work with the NAIC.

Academy Presents on Health Equity at SOA Meeting The Health Equity Committee presented at a Thursday session of the Society of Actuaries’ (SOA) 2025 Health Meeting in Dallas. Committee member Maggie Ruzicka moderated the session, which included a discussion on health equity concerns related to non-traditional benefits, such as food as medicine, within a standard benefits package. Micro-Volunteering Opportunity-Insurance Fraud Project The Academy Public Policy Department is seeking life and health actuaries with experience in quantifying insurance fraud for a short-term project that will take place this fall. Public Policy in Action- The casualty, health, life, and risk management and financial reporting practice councils submitted a comment letter to the NAIC’s Risk-Based Capital (RBC) Model Governance (EX) Task Force, in response to NAIC’s July 3 memo requesting comments on proposed RBC principles and questions.

Academy to Present at IABA Annual Meeting Academy representatives will attend and present at the International Association of Black Actuaries (IABA) Annual Meeting, July 31-Aug. 3 in Washington, D.C.-a prime opportunity to connect with aspiring and credentialed actuaries while sharing the Academy’s work on key public policy and professionalism issues. President Darrell Knapp; President-Elect Tricia Matson; Retirement Vice President and IABA Liaison Jason Russell; and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee Chairperson Julia Lerche will be among the attendees. Past President Tom Wildsmith will present to a pre-conference bootcamp for students on public policy, and Past President Lisa Slotznick, ACI/ACRI Work Group Chairperson Peter Ott, and Climate Change Joint Committee Chairperson Seong-min Eom will present on the impact of climate change and extreme events on disparate communities. Academy staff will also participate in IABA’s career networking event. NAWA Survey Seeks Actuaries’ Input The Network of Actuarial Women and Allies (NAWA) is seeking insights from actuaries via a survey to potentially influence the creation of engagement and career opportunities for future members.
