This informative volume recaps the many contributions and work of Academy volunteers and staff over the past year in fulfilling the mission of the Academy to serve the public and the U.S. profession.

The January issue of Actuarial Update, also released Tuesday, includes a report from the Academy’s recent Board meeting; the launch of the new DE&I Committee; the Bureau of Labor Statistics will be reaching out to health insurance companies as part of its gathering of Producer Price Index data; and a “Professionalism Counts” column covers a new discussion paper from the Committee on Professional Responsibility.

The Health Practice Council’s Individual and Small Group Markets Committee and Risk Sharing Subcommittee submitted a comment letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ proposed rule for the 2024 Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters (NBPP).

The Life Practice Council’s C1 Work Group submitted a comment letter to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (NAIC) Risk-Based Capital Investment Risk and Evaluation Working Group, following up on the work group’s presentation on collateralized loan obligations given to the working group at the NAIC’s Fall 2022 National Meeting.

Volunteers and Interested Parties: It’s Time to Submit Your COI/CE Acknowledgments
Volunteers and interested parties serving on Academy boards, councils, committees, subcommittees, task forces, and work groups must submit their acknowledgment of the Academy’s Conflict of Interest (COI) policy and attest that they meet the continuing education (CE) requirements of the U.S. Qualification Standards. Volunteers and interested parties can make their submissions by following the instructions in the COI/CE email they received, or by logging in to the member section of the Academy website and following the appropriate link under “Volunteer Acknowledgments.”
Pension Webinar Dives Deep on ARPA, Multiemployer Plans
The Academy on Tuesday hosted a pension webinar, “Insights Into the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Multiemployer Plan Special Financial Assistance (SFA) Application Process,” which covered lessons learned from actual multiemployer plan SFA applications to date. Slides and a recording of the webinar will be available soon as a member benefit.
