Inaugural Spring Policy Summit Set for MarchWill Be Followed by Annual Academy ‘Hill Visits’ | | | |
|
The Academy will hold its inaugural Spring Policy Summit on March 9 in Washington, D.C., offering the opportunity to hear from federal policy advocates and influential stakeholders on key 2026 issues and potential next steps on issues like artificial intelligence (AI), climate risk, insurance access and affordability, and the aging U.S. population. This timely summit will provide actuaries with a focused opportunity to deepen their understanding of the public policy landscape during a pivotal midterm election year while earning valuable continuing education (CE) credit. Register today. The summit will offer a day of focused educational programming and continuing education with an emphasis on the Academy’s priority public policy issues for 2026, as well as an opportunity to enhance your professionalism skills. The summit will be followed by the annual Academy “Hill visits” with federal policymakers on Capitol Hill on March 10.

COPLFR Releases Annual Practice Note on SAOs | | | |

The Committee on Property and Liability Financial Reporting (COPLFR) released its annual practice note on Statements of Actuarial Opinion [SAOs] on P/C Loss Reserves, including discussion regarding changes in the NAIC Annual Statement Instructions-Property/Casualty (NAIC Annual Statement Instructions) regarding the actuarial opinion, the actuarial opinion summary, and actuarial report.

Public Policy in Action - A Data Science and Analytics Committee policy paper, A Foundational Study of Algorithmic Bias, examines the types of biases that can be unintentionally embedded within the algorithms that drive machine-learning and AI systems.
- The Life Practice Council's (LPC) C-3 and Variable Annuity Reserves and Capital subcommittees submitted comments on recent NAIC groups' C-3 exposures.

Dues Reminder—Is Your Academy Profile Up to Date? | | | |

The start of a new year is a great time to take a few minutes to ensure your Academy member information is up to date. Here are a few things to check in your member profile: |
- Dues—Have you paid your 2026 member dues? They were due Jan. 1.
- Employment—Have you changed jobs? Check that your contact information reflects your new role and any addresses (email and/or mailing address) are accurate.
- Credentials—Have you gained a new credential? Congratulations! Please take a few minutes to update your profile to reflect your achievement.
- CE Attestation—Starting this year, members may submit their annual voluntary Academy CE attestation through your account.

Published in the December Actuarial Update, the latest “Professionalism Counts” column, 25 Years of ‘The Code’, notes the Jan. 1 silver anniversary of the U.S. Code of Professional Conduct, the foundational document for actuaries in our self-regulating profession. Kicking off a year-long series on the Code, it features an interview with Academy Past President Ken Kent, who served on the committee that drafted the Code and long served as chairperson of the Joint Committee on the Code of Professional Conduct. | | | |
