Academy Volunteers Share the ‘Academy Story’ With Columbia Actuarial Students
Actuarial science graduate students in Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies had a chance to hear personal stories of the value of volunteerism on behalf of the profession and the Academy’s public policy and professionalism work on Tuesday evening in New York City. Academy Board member Maambo Mujala and Life Practice Council volunteer Melissa Miller spoke and networked with students and faculty, discussing the history and role of the Academy and their personal stories as actuaries who are contributing to its mission serving the public and the U.S. profession.
Academy Spreads the Word on Climate, Cyber Risk & Innovation
Director of Research (Public Policy) Steve Jackson spoke April 5 at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana’s Actuarial Science Faculty Seminar about climate risk, and addressed the undergraduate Actuarial Science Club’s Symposium on Innovations in Insurance on Saturday, on cyber risk.
Trujillo Highlights Public Policy Activities in Towson University Panel
Academy Senior Director of Public Policy Geralyn Trujillo joined a panel discussing how actuaries are shaping the future hosted by Towson University’s Actuarial Science and Risk Management Advisory Board in Townson, Md., on Thursday. Trujillo discussed the Academy’s public policy mission and laid out how its volunteers engage policymakers through publications, comment letters, issue briefs, meetings, and webinars. She encouraged the audience of students, alumni, professors, and industry professionals to be active voices in promoting the profession’s unique expertise and perspectives by learning more about the Academy and volunteer opportunities via our website, actuary.org.
