Mary D. Miller Becomes President of the American Academy of Actuaries

WASHINGTON – Mary D. Miller, a consulting actuary with Risk & Regulatory Consulting LLC, Farmington, Conn., began her term as president of the American Academy of Actuaries on Nov. 13. Miller accepted the association’s presidential gavel earlier today during a transition ceremony at the Academy’s Annual Meeting and Public Policy Forum in Washington. She succeeds Tom Terry, of The Terry Group, Chicago, as president for the 2014-2015 term.
 
Miller was elected by the Academy’s board of directors to the office of president-elect on Oct. 1, 2013. As president-elect, she served on the Academy’s Board and Executive Committee. Previously, she served as a regular director on the Academy’s Board, as vice president of the Casualty Practice Council, and as co-chairperson of the Financial Soundness and Risk Management Committee. In 2011, she was awarded the Robert J. Myers Award for Public Service, one of the association’s two highest awards.
 
Up to 2012, Miller was a property and casualty actuary with the Ohio Department of Insurance. She has also served on several committees and task forces at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Prior to joining the Ohio Department of Insurance, she worked in the private sector for eight years in commercial lines pricing, reserving, and underwriting.
