ABOUT THIS WEBINAR

The Academy’s Research Committee invites you to join us for a webinar featuring the 2025 Award for Research recipient, Xi Xin, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. This year’s theme was “Bias in Assessing Financial Risk: Origins, Detection, Mitigation,” and received several compelling submissions.

Xin received the 2025 award for his co-authored paper “Antidiscrimination Insurance Pricing: Regulations, Fairness Criteria, and Models,” published in the North American Actuarial Journal (Vol. 28, Issue 2, 2024).

Award finalists Olivier Coté from the Université Laval and Tianhe Zhang from the University of Wisconsin, Madison will join Xin and present their original research on bias. This will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Grace Lattyak, former chairperson of the Academy’s Research Committee. Together, they’ll discuss how actuaries and practitioners might translate these findings into real changes that have the potential to mitigate biases in actuarial assessments in insurance and retirement planning.
