Nancy Behrens and Janet Fagan, vice chairpersons of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline, discussed important professionalism topics such as the importance of documenting your work, meeting CE requirements, avoiding strained interpretations of the Code of Professional Conduct and ASOPs, and other issues covered in recent “Up to Code” articles in Contingencies magazine.

Since 2006, actuaries have been relying on “Up to Code” articles published in Contingencies to help keep their professionalism skills sharp. Written mainly by members of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline, “Up to Code” articles reflect the wide variety of issues that are brought to the ABCD’s attention during the request for guidance and complaint processes. As such, these articles are informative ways that practicing actuaries can reflect on trending professionalism issues to improve professionalism standards in their workday lives.

With more than two dozen “Up to Code” articles in the Contingencies archives, actuaries in all practice areas can benefit from an in-depth review of the best of “Up to Code.”
