Worldwide demand for long-term care (LTC) is expected to increase significantly in the coming decades because of longevity increases and advances in technologies and treatment. Countries around the world will need to develop more comprehensive strategies to address challenges associated not only with financing LTC but also with delivering services and support and meeting the needs of both beneficiaries and providers/caregivers.
 
This international webinar featured a discussion about some of the global challenges facing LTC, including delivery methods, financing, and program design, as well as the role actuaries play in identifying trends and potential solutions to each of these challenges. Presenters highlighted a new report issued by the International Actuarial Association’s Population Issues Working Group, and shared perspectives on LTC from the United States and Germany.

ABOUT OUR GUEST PRESENTERS

	Andrew Dalton, MAAA, FSA Andrew Dalton consults primarily to life and health insurance companies, specializing in long-term care insurance. His professional experience includes work on actuarial appraisals for mergers and acquisitions, asset and liability analysis, cash flow testing, statutory and tax reserve reviews, hedging, and economic capital for life and health companies. Dalton focuses much of his practice on LTC, but has product experience spanning across life and health products, including traditional life insurance and annuities, disability income, and credit life insurance. He is a current topic team leader of the IAAHS for topics related to LTC, a former chairperson of the Society of Actuaries’ Investment Section Council, and a former chairperson of the Society of Actuaries’ Actuary of the Future Section. Dalton is a frequent speaker at industry conferences in both North America and Europe.
	Sam Gutterman MAAA, FSA, FCAS, CERA, FCA, HonFIA Sam Gutterman is a retired consulting actuary whose interests span insurance, social insurance, valuation, accounting, demography, and the environment. He has provided actuarial consulting and audit services to a wide range of life, health, and property & casualty insurance companies, self-insureds, and government agencies. He has served as president of the Society of Actuaries and chair of numerous committees of the Academy, IAA, SOA, and the Casualty Actuarial Society. He has long been active in long-term care, serving as chair of the SOA’s Long-Term Experience Committee from 1985 to 1995 and consulting on LTC during his consulting career. He currently serves as co-vice-chair of the IAA’s Population Issues and the Resources & Environment Working Groups. He was a consulting actuary with PricewaterhouseCoopers and earlier was with the CNA Insurance Companies. He received an MAS and BA from the University of Michigan.
	Sabrina Link, Dipl. Bus. Math., Actuary (DAV) Sabrina Link is a senior pricing actuary at Gen Re. She works as a product specialist for international long-term care insurance in the Life/Health Research & Development department with responsibility for product design and actuarial aspects. Link also heads Gen Re’s Competence Centre for Long Term Care, a network of Gen Re’s experts in long-term care worldwide. Furthermore, her tasks include conducting annual mortality investigations in the German market and extending Gen Re’s expertise in predictive modeling. She holds a degree in business mathematics from the University of Cologne and is a member of the German Actuarial Society (DAV).

April Choi, MAAA, FSA April Choi is an actuarial executive with over 35 years of health care experience. She currently provides consultant services on a limited basis. She spends most of her time on voluntary professional activities supporting the U.S. and international actuarial organizations. Choi has been the chairperson of the IAAHS since 2014. She is a member of the Academy’s Health Practice Council and chairperson of the Public Program Committee, has served on many of the Academy’s health care reform work groups, and is an Academy Board member. She received the Academy’s Outstanding Volunteerism Award in 2015.
