Discussion on Actuarial Standards Board and ASOPs

This event has passed.
Date:

12/04/2008

Time:

5:00 AM

December 4, 2008
12:00 – 1:30 p.m. (EDT)

Presented by the Academy’s Council on Professionalism and co-sponsored by the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. This educational webcast will discuss how the Actuarial Standards Board (ASB) works and how Actuarial Standards of Practice (ASOPs) are created. You will hear:

  • A discussion on the goals of the Actuarial Standards Board, its structure, the content of the ASB website, and a description of the process of developing, exposing, and issuing Actuarial Standards of Practice.
  • Insights on how to use and apply ASOPs in a practical, everyday actuarial work environment – determining applicability, what it means to satisfy a standard, and the role of professional judgment.
  • A discussion regarding the place of ASOPs in a professional work environment that includes laws, regulations, ASOPs, and practice notes.

Webcast participants may submit questions during the webcast and the panelists will respond to as many of these questions as possible during the time allotted. The materials, statements, and opinions expressed during the webcast are solely those of the panelists and are not those of the Actuarial Standards Board, or any other board, committee, or organization.
