American Academy of Actuaries to Honor Andrea Sweeny With Jarvis Farley Service Award
Date
WASHINGTON – The American Academy of Actuaries will present Andrea Sweeny, MAAA, FCAS, FCA, with the 2015 Jarvis Farley Service Award during the Academy’s Annual Meeting and Public Policy Forum, Nov. 12-13, 2015, in Washington, D.C.
“I am delighted to announce that the Jarvis Farley Service Award will be presented to Andrea Sweeny, a longtime Academy volunteer whose contagious energy and dedication have been integral to numerous projects benefiting the U.S. actuarial profession,” said Academy President Mary D. Miller. “Over a period spanning more than 15 years, Andrea has served in positions on nearly 20 committees. That service includes chairing the Committee on Property and Liability Financial Reporting, as well as positions on the Academy Board of Directors as a regular director and an executive officer. In all of these positions, Andrea has garnered tremendous respect from and been an inspiration to her colleagues. She is known as tirelessly hardworking and effective, a fact that is reflected in highly acclaimed projects like the P/C Effective Loss Reserve Opinion Seminar, which she helped to establish.”
“This is a wonderful honor, although in many ways it reflects the people I served with,” said Sweeny. “The people I came to know greatly multiplied whatever tools I came to a task with. I have been glad to provide service to a profession that has been good to me. But that service has also opened up tremendous areas of knowledge and perspective that I never would have had if I stuck only to the jobs I was hired to do. I hope others will discover for themselves the benefits of serving the profession in the spirit of Jarvis Farley.”
The Jarvis Farley Service Award honors actuaries whose volunteer efforts on behalf of the Academy have made significant contributions to the advancement of the profession. The Academy established the award in 1991 to honor one of its most dedicated volunteers, Jarvis Farley, a charter member of the Academy and an invaluable resource for the profession.
