WHERE: Grand Hyatt Washington, Washington, D.C.
WHEN: Oct. 15–16
HOW: Register for “Envision Tomorrow” before the Sept. 13 early deadline.
WHY: As summer winds down, the Academy’s annual meeting, Envision Tomorrow, is rapidly approaching. We are excited for all of our speakers and sessions and wanted to share our property- and casualty-focused sessions: “Cost Drivers in Property and Casualty Insurance,” “Identifying and Measuring the Impact of Mitigation Solutions for Extreme Weather Events” and “Florida and California Reforms and Their Impact on the P&C Insurance Market.”
The first session, Oct. 15 at 1:30 p.m. EDT, will discuss how a wide variety of outside factors impact costs at all levels of P&C insurance, including third-party litigation, per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) regulations, social inflation, and nuclear verdicts. Rich Gibson, the Academy’s senior casualty fellow, will lead a discussion with panelists from the APCIA and Assured Research to explore some of the many factors that lead to higher costs for all parties.
The second session, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. EDT, will explore how mitigation efforts anticipating hurricanes, wildfires, and other natural catastrophes can protect property from damage as well as having a positive financial effect for policyholders and insurers. What efforts make the biggest impact, and how effective are these strategies? The session will include speakers from CoreLogic and the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety who will discuss the spectrum of mitigation solutions available.
Social inflation, extreme weather events, and climate change are affecting insurance costs all over the country. The final breakout session, Oct. 16 at 12:45 p.m. EDT, will discuss and share lessons learned from two recent public policy efforts to stabilize state insurance markets—Florida’s state senate bill SB 2-A and the California Sustainable Insurance Strategy. The discussion will include speakers from Citizens Florida, the Personal Insurance Federation of California, and United Policy Holders.
