Tyson Mohr joined State Farm in 2007 as a Life Actuary. Across his 19-year career, he has held a wide variety of roles spanning finance, enterprise risk management, property/casualty underwriting, and modeling. In his current role in P/C actuarial, he focuses on advising the Law Department on actuarial legal/regulatory topics and advancing companywide personal lines, automobile, and homeowners pricing strategy.
A 2025 recipient of the American Academy of Actuaries’ Outstanding Volunteerism Award, Mohr is chairperson of the Academy’s P/C Committee on Equity and Fairness, where he has contributed to issue briefs and actively engaged in regulatory outreach to the NAIC on these issues. He has also developed a survey examining actuarial perspectives on bias and weighed in on proposed actuarial standards of practice (ASOPs). He is a member of the Academy’s AI, Data Science, and Analytics Committee and an instructor at Illinois State University.
The Academy’s mission is to serve the public and the U.S. actuarial profession. How will your service on the Board allow you to further the Academy’s mission of public policy and professionalism?
This is a critical period for the insurance sector and for the public’s relationship with it. Trust is low, costs are rising, and technology is evolving rapidly. I want to help actuaries navigate these conditions by strengthening our ability to deliver objective, independent guidance while representing the Academy with credibility and integrity. Actuaries occupy an unusual and valuable position in the public policy space: we are dedicated to serving the public interest, rather than advancing any particular interest group. Being on the Board will allow me to ensure our priorities and professionalism standards are aligned with this goal.
