ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
Join the Health Practice Council’s Health Equity Committee leadership for a dynamic and engaging Town Hall discussion about the current use of and different considerations for financial return-on-investment (ROI) when evaluating a health care program or benefit. The Town Hall will also offer the opportunity to take a first look at the first phase of our Broadening the Focus project, featuring the results of a series of interviews with non-actuarial researchers, economists, and clinicians.
Using interactive discussion questions, we are looking to collect Academy member feedback on how the information collected to date and the perceptions of financial ROI as a decision-making tool in health care by non-actuaries compares to your work as an actuary evaluating health care interventions.
We will explore the following areas:
- The use of financial ROI as the primary measure of a program:
- Potential advantages
- Potential disadvantages of using financial ROI, including: narrow focus; inconsistent application; potential misalignment with clinical goals; short-term bias; the “wrong pocket” problem; challenges with methodology and quantification; and potential barriers to innovation.
- How to share your thoughts and feedback to help inform our next steps in the Broadening the Focus project
Interactive discussion questions will be presented to the audience in real time during the Town Hall and afterwards.
