American Academy of Actuaries Honors Curtis Huntington with Farley Award
WASHINGTON—15 Oct. 2012—The American Academy of Actuaries awarded Curtis Huntington, MAAA, FCA, FSA, MSPA, with the 2012 Jarvis Farley Service Award during a ceremony held earlier today at the organization’s annual meeting and awards luncheon. Huntington is a professor and director of the Actuarial Program in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Michigan. He was recognized for his contributions to the actuarial profession through his numerous volunteer efforts throughout his career.
“Curtis Huntington is an inspiration to actuaries young and old,” said Academy President Dave Sandberg, who presented the award to Huntington. “Curtis is known and respected by actuaries within the United States and throughout the world for his commitment to ensuring that actuaries perform to the highest professional and ethical standards. His volunteer work on behalf of the Academy and the profession clearly have influenced generations of actuaries and the standards that govern our profession.”
A former member of the Academy Board of Directors, Huntington serves on the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline, where he served two years as its Chairperson. He has served since 1994 as a valuable member of the Academy’s Council on Professionalism and currently serves as a member of the council’s Joint Committee on the Code of Professional Conduct. Huntington also has represented the U.S. actuarial profession as a member of many influential committees of the International Actuarial Association, including Accreditation, Nominations, and Professionalism.
Huntington graduated from the University of Michigan in 1964 with a BA in Mathematics and obtained a Masters’ degree in Actuarial Science there in 1965. He obtained his law degree from Suffolk University, Boston, in 1976. Huntington led a distinguished career at New England Mutual Life Insurance Co. from 1967–1 993, where he was Chief Auditor, Vice

The service award was established in 1991 in honor of Jarvis Farley, a charter member of the Academy. Farley was a highly respected figure in the actuarial profession who gave tirelessly to the professional association. The Academy presents the award to individuals who continue Farley’s spirit of volunteer service to the actuarial profession.
