The Academy’s office will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14, for the federal holiday.
Envision Tomorrow Is Next Week—Digital Pass Available
Envision Tomorrow, the Academy’s annual meeting, is coming next week to the nation’s capital. There’s still time to get a Digital Pass registration for the Oct. 15 & 16 event, which allows virtual access to all general sessions and select practice-area breakouts. For those attending in person, take advantage of the many networking opportunities to engage with other attendees including a reception following the Oct. 15 program, an optional “Memorials by Moonlight” tour that evening, a scavenger hunt, and an Oct. 16 morning Fun Run & Walk. Follow the Academy’s social media feeds for the latest—and post your own—using the hashtags #EnvisionTomorrow and #Actuaries2024. Secure your Digital Pass.
Recordings available—Recordings of most Envision Tomorrow sessions (general and breakouts) will be available to attendees to view free of charge for 30 days after the event, and available to all Academy members for a fee. Keep an eye out for an email detailing how to access them via Academy Learning.
Two Weeks Left—Early Discounts for Seminar on Effective Property/Casualty Loss Reserve Opinions
Early registration discounts are available for the 2024 Seminar on Effective P/C Loss Reserve Opinions, set for Dec. 9–10 in New Orleans. Called by one past attendee “a great distillation of changing requirements and rules, as well as a good pooling of experience,” the seminar is designed for property/casualty actuaries who prepare NAIC statements of actuarial opinion. Early discounts run through Oct. 25. Register today.

Retirement Report Looks at Immigration & Social Security
The Fall Retirement Report leads with a Q&A with Social Security Committee Chairperson Sam Gutterman on the committee’s recent issue paper on the importance of immigration to Social Security’s financial sustainability. Also in the issue, Envision Tomorrow retirement breakout sessions and the latest in the Academy’s “ERISA at 50” series.
Actuarially Sound Highlights Importance of Informed Voting
The latest Actuarially Sound blog post notes the importance of voting and highlights the Academy’s Election 2024: Issues Clearinghouse—a resource for members, public policymakers, and the broader public policy community to find independent, unbiased insights with the actuarial perspective on some of the top public policy issues facing the country.

Academy Attends AAE Meeting
Academy Senior Director of Public Policy Geralyn Trujillo attended this week’s Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE) meeting in Budapest, Hungary. Representing more than 29,000 European actuaries, the AAE meeting focused on several key areas in policy, governance, and professionalism. Discussions included the impact of AI in the insurance industry, the economy, and the role of the actuaries; the future of the profession and the need to continue to elevate the expertise and knowledge that actuaries bring to the C-suite; the influence of Solvency II and what future changes could mean; and how the AAE and its member associations will continue to engage and grow its relationship with key external stakeholders, including the European Parliament, the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), and the International Actuarial Association (IAA).
Public Policy in Brief
The Life Practice Councilprovided comments to the entirety of the NAIC Life Actuarial Task Force on the exposure, AAT for Reinsurance Actuarial Guideline Draft.

JBEA Seeks Actuarial Exam Advisory Committee Members
The Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries (JBEA) is seeking applications for the Advisory Committee on Actuarial Examinations for a term from March 1, 2025, to Feb. 28, 2027. The committee plays an integral role in assisting the JBEA in offering examinations that test the knowledge necessary to qualify for enrollment.

Public Employment Opportunity—FEMA Seeks Chief Actuary
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is seeking a chief actuary for the Federal Insurance Directorate. As a member of the senior management team, the chief actuary will support the assistant administrator of federal insurance and assist senior executives for federal insurance on all actuarial matters, and serve as an adviser to the FEMA administrator when necessary.
