Medicare’s Financial Outlook and the Effects of Growing Enrollment in Medicare Advantage

In this webinar, the chief actuary for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provided an overview of the Medicare Trustees Report findings and highlighted the challenges to the program’s solvency and sustainability. Next, a representative from Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) discussed their work examining the impact of Medicare Advantage on the program's financial status, including their recent analyses of the effects of coding intensity and selection. 

Social Security Trustees Report: A Deep-Dive Discussion With the Program's Actuaries

They gained insights into the recently released annual Social Security Trustees Report, which featured prominent actuaries who oversee the program. They provided a deep dive into the assumptions and how recent developments like updated data on inflation and output are reflected in their projections. The chairperson of the Academy’s Social Security Committee facilitated the discussion and provided a summary of the trustees’ findings.

• Gained an understanding of Social Security’s 2024 financial picture;
