Professionalism Webinar Recordings Available to Members

A valuable benefit of Academy membership is free and unlimited access to the Council on Professionalism’s entire—and growing—library of professionalism webinars, which date back to September 2007. Academy members can earn continuing education (CE) credits by listening to these pre-recorded webinars. These credits can be counted toward the annual required three hours of continuing education on professionalism topics, as detailed in the U.S. Qualification Standards (Section 2.2). Professionalism credits under the U.S. Qualification Standards are not required to be from “organized activities”; so while listening to recorded webinars will not count as an organized activity it still will satisfy the professionalism requirement.

NOTE ON JBEA CE CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE: You will not be able to receive a certificate of attendance for listening to any recorded webinars. In order to receive a JBEA CE Certificate of Attendance you must attend the live event, follow the instructions provided during the live event, and you must request your certificate by completing the online form within two days of attending the live event.

Up to Code: Are You Keeping Up to Code?

Panelists Nancy Behrens and Janet Fagan, vice chairpersons of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline (ABCD), discussed professionalism topics covered in recent “Up to Code” articles in Contingencies magazine. The discussion included particulars and case studies of Precept 2 of the Code of Professional Conduct, the pros and limitations of peer review in connection with actuarial work, and ABCD considerations in balancing transparency with confidentiality.

Where the Rubber Meets the Road: Applying the Code of Professional Conduct and ASOPs in Your Daily Work

Speakers provided a series of vignettes demonstrating how to apply the Code of Professional Conduct and ASOPs with care and skill. Precept 3 and ASOP No. 41, Actuarial Communications, were used to showcase real-life scenarios. Speakers then discussed key takeaways and steps for heightening the level of professionalism in daily work, including documentation and communication.

This professionalism webinar provided both a primer and a refresher course on what the Code means to you as a practicing actuary. During the 90-minute webinar, Council on Professionalism members Kevin Dyke and Karen Smith and Academy Assistant General Counsel Sheila J. Kalkunte discussed the Code’s Precepts, what constitutes a violation, and answered questions from participants.
