Actuarial Professionalism: It's Important!
The importance of professionalism when providing actuarial services cannot be overstated. Our professionalism standards articulate the profession’s commitment to expertise and conscientious service, and demand a high standard of professional conduct from the practicing actuary - one that requires a combination of competency, integrity, objectivity, and a commitment to serve the public.
However, meeting this demand is not always easy in our competitive, ever-changing, and fast-paced work environment. New areas of practice emerge, new technologies such as AI raise questions about their use, and principals don't always understand an actuary's professionalism responsibilities and obligations. The good news is that our professionalism standards provide a great deal of guidance and help when we find ourselves in situations where appropriate actions are not immediately obvious or where we need to explain our actions to others.
