Derek Freihaut is a principal and consulting actuary at Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, Inc. He has worked in the insurance industry and actuarial profession for over 20 years. He is experienced in loss reserving, funding studies, loss cost projections, captive feasibility studies, risk transfer analyses, and personal and commercial lines ratemaking. He advises multiple self-insured entities, captives, and insurance companies and assists in the internal audit of numerous insurance companies for accounting firms.

Derek has a long history of involvement in and volunteering within the industry and the actuarial profession, including serving as the current chairperson of the Academy’s Committee on Property and Liability Financial Reporting. His Academy volunteering history appears below.

The Academy’s mission is to serve the public and the U.S. actuarial profession. How will your service on the Board allow you to further the Academy’s mission of public policy and professionalism?

The advancement of the actuarial profession has been a primary commitment of mine throughout my career. I believe that actuarial science, as a discipline and in practice, must continue to develop—for the constituents we serve and for the benefit of the next generation of actuarial professionals. My involvement with the Academy, my volunteerism within the actuarial community, my service to clients and my work on the development of new methods such as expected adverse deviation (EAD), have all been focused on that very important goal. It would be my honor to be able to continue that commitment as a member of the Academy’s Board to further its mission for members, the actuarial profession, and the public.
