Virtual Briefing
Drivers of 2023 Health Insurance Premium Changes
July 5, 2022 | Noon to 1 p.m. EDT | USQS CE Available
ABOUT THIS BRIEFING
As health insurance carriers work to develop proposed premiums for 2023, they are considering a range of factors that could cause premiums for the next year to differ from this year’s. A new issue brief, Drivers of 2023 Health Insurance Premium Changes, released by the Individual and Small Group Markets Committee of the American Academy of Actuaries’ Health Practice Council, highlights the drivers affecting premiums for 2023.
During this virtual briefing, members of the committee who drafted the issue brief will walk through the factors actuaries might consider in the premium rate-setting for 2023. They will provide an overview of the major drivers and discuss why premiums could differ from those in 2022. They will explore several possible drivers of changes in health insurance premiums for 2023, as outlined in the issue brief, including:
- COVID-19;
- Expiration of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) enhanced premium subsidies;
- Resumption of Medicaid eligibility redeterminations;
- Fixing the “family glitch”; and
- Inflation.
