Dear Academy Member,
As president of the American Academy of Actuaries, it is my pleasure to inform you that, after a rigorous search process, I can announce the Academy’s selection of a highly qualified and experienced professional and association leader as executive director. William “Bill” Michalisin, CAE, CIA, will be the Academy’s Executive Director starting on Sept. 27, 2021. I and the whole Academy leadership team look forward to working with Bill as he brings his talents, experience, and dynamism to the day-to-day operations and strategic decision-making processes of the Academy.
Bill has shared that he is “honored to join such a dynamic organization as the American Academy of Actuaries, which is at the forefront of critical issues, initiatives and policies impacting the actuarial profession and the public. I am especially excited to work with the Academy’s outstanding Board, staff, and volunteers and collaborate with peer organizations as we work together to enhance our value to members and the profession, amplify our voice, and further elevate the professionalism of current and future actuaries.”
Bill most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), the global professional association and standard-setting body for internal auditors with more than 200,000 members worldwide. In addition, Bill was Executive Director of the Internal Audit Foundation, a 501(c)3 research and educational arm of the IIA, and Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Sales Officer. Previously, he held several leadership and client service roles globally at Deloitte, with a focus on industry marketing and communications, management consulting, financial and risk advisory services and forensic/dispute litigation. Bill is a graduate of Columbia University with a master’s degree in strategic communications and he has a bachelor’s degree in international relations and economics from Bucknell University. He holds the American Society of Association Executives’ Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential and the IIA’s Auditors’ Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) credential.
I hope you will join us in extending a warm welcome to Bill as you meet or interact with him in the course of his leadership role and efforts to drive the Academy’s mission forward on behalf of the profession and our members.
Sincerely,
Tom Campbell
