Attendees joined the Academy’s Health Equity Work Group (HEWG) for an important discussion of issues involving health disparities facing our country and an update on the work group’s efforts to address those concerns in, "Health Equity: An Actuarial Perspective."  Disparities in our health care system have long been cause for concern and have received increased attention during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

In this webinar, Wayne Rawlins, M.D., MBA, a national expert on health equity, described what health equity is, the drivers of health disparities, and strategies to address them. His presentation was followed by a panel discussion of leaders of the HEWG, who discussed the goals for the work group and its work thus far examining health equity in the context of benefit design, provider contracting/network development, premium pricing, and managing public health as framed in the HEWG’s recent discussion brief, Health Equity From an Actuarial Perspective: Questions to Explore. They also discussed some of the work group's plans for future projects.
