The Academy’s mission is to serve the public and the U.S. actuarial profession. How will your service on the Board allow you to further the Academy’s mission of public policy and professionalism?
I hope to bring a regulatory perspective in these areas—policy and professionalism. While the Academy has certainly included this perspective over the years, the continual evolution of regulation based more and more on actuarial judgment keeps this perspective relevant. It’s also hard to think about any group’s mission at this point without reacting to the moment we are in. How does the Academy respond to a societal need? To move the needle toward equality and inclusion; toward addressing and dismantling systemic bias and inherent, institutional racism. Clearly very difficult issues to even consider and understand, let alone propose solutions. Where can the Academy fit into work on a solution? How and where can the analytic and problem-solving skills of actuaries be directed to help contribute to the address of this problem?
