As a member of the Academy, you now have special access to recently produced videos prepared by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on several key regulations implementing certain provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Description of Regulation Review Modules The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) has recently released proposed rules for the new health insurance marketplaces, which begin operation on Jan. 1, 2014. These proposed rules cover: Market reform rules Essential health benefits and actuarial value Risk adjustment, transitional reinsurance and risk corridors (the “3Rs”) To help actuaries learn about these rules and how to interpret them, CMS has prepared a series of short video modules that you can download. These (currently 25 or so) modules consist of short discussions (eight to 10 minutes each) on individual topics to help actuaries learn about the regulations and can be viewed at your convenience. Starting on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, the modules may be downloaded from the Regulation Review website. The Casualty, Life, Health, and Professionalism councils submitted comments to the NAIC's Joint Qualified Actuary (A/B/C) Subgroup on the subgroup's two new charges related to defining a "qualified actuary" and recommending a process to address "unprofessional" actuarial work. (February 11, 2013)
