Two Important Volunteer Acknowledgments

Dear Academy Volunteer:

In 2007, the Academy Board of Directors adopted a policy requiring all Academy members who serve as members of any Academy boards, councils, committees, sub-committees, task forces, and work groups, etc. (collectively “Committee”), to acknowledge annually the existing Conflict of Interest (“COI”) policy that applies to all Academy members who do volunteer work for the Academy.

Academy members who serve on a Committee are required to:

1. disclose actual or potential conflicts of interest if and when they arise (and, as appropriate, recuse themselves from Committee projects giving rise to any such conflict); and
2. refrain from disclosing a Committee’s work product other than in a manner consistent with the COI policy and the Academy’s Guidelines for Making Public Statements.

By acknowledging the COI policy, you will be acknowledging that you understand this Academy requirement serves to maintain the highest level of professional objectivity, including independence from any specific interests of your employers.

Similarly, in 2011, the Academy Board of Directors adopted a policy that all Academy members who are members of any Academy Committee annually comply with, and attest to compliance with, the continuing education requirements of the U.S. Qualification Standards (https://www.actuary.org/sites/default/files/2021-11/USQS_2021.pdf). It is expected that each such actuary will have completed 30 hours of CE (relevant continuing education, including 6 from organized activities and 3 from professionalism topics and 1 from bias topics) in the year prior to the acknowledgment or as otherwise provided in the U.S. Qualification Standards that took effect Jan. 1, 2022. Please note that many volunteers may earn CE credits, including organized activity credits, by virtue of serving on an actuarial committee. Your current volunteer and/or interested party positions with the Academy are listed at the bottom of this page.

Please review the two acknowledgments below and attest to same. Before submitting your acknowledgments, I also encourage you to review and make any necessary updates to your member profile information below to ensure that the Academy has your most current information and to help us compile key metrics about our members' demographics.

Continuing Education Acknowledgment

I hereby acknowledge the following:

1. I am a member of the American Academy of Actuaries ("Academy") and also serve as a member on one or more of the Academy's committees, councils, boards, task forces, or work groups, etc., including service through the Pension Assistance List (PAL) program, (collectively, "Committee").
2. I hereby acknowledge that I have met the annual continuing education requirements for the year 2023 as set forth in the U.S. Qualification Standards in effect as of Jan. 1, 2022, as provided at https://www.actuary.org/sites/default/files/2021-11/USQS_2021.pdf.

Conflict of Interest Acknowledgment

I hereby acknowledge the following:

1. I am a member of the American Academy of Actuaries ("Academy") and also serve as a member on one or more of the Academy's committees, councils, boards, task forces, or work groups, etc. including service through the Pension Assistance List (PAL) program, (collectively, "Committee").
2. I have read the Conflict of Interest Policy ("Policy") issued by the Academy and acknowledge my obligation to adhere to this policy and, in particular, my duty to carefully consider and address any situation that may arise in my role as a volunteer on the Committee that may call into question my professional objectivity.
