Upcycling Program FAQs for Companies

What is electronic upcycling?
Electronics upcycling of corporate and consumer retired electronics extends the device’s useful life with a mission to keep electronics out of landfills, and create charitable giving for causes in the United States and around the world.
â
How do we know which electronics have upcycle value?
Most often electronics made in the past six years have upcycle value.*
How do we maximize the upcycle value?
Remind employees to:
- Upcycle items that are six years old or newer*;
- Remove passwords and accounts from the cloud; and
- Include associated accessories.
*Gaming consoles—All in good working condition from the original Atari and Nintendo consoles to the latest models. Please include associated games and manuals.
What if employees have other items to upcycle?
It is important to follow the upcycle calendar. If you find that your office is receiving several requests for other items, please contact info@virescentintl.com to inquire.
How do the donation receipts work?
Donations are tax-deductible for personal devices. See the language at the bottom of the donation receipt.
How does the shipping work?
Each office will download shipping labels from its UPS carrier to be placed on each box. Each shipping label will have a tracking number. When boxes are ready for shipment, fill in the Shipping Details to send to Virescent.
â
Where do we ship the boxes?
Virescent Int’l, Inc.
10 Main Street
Suite 301
Rochester, NH 03867
Attn: Julie Shane
How do we package the electronics for shipment?
It is important to package the items so they are received in the condition sent.
Be sure to:
â
- Pack items using bubble wrap, packing peanuts, or recycled paper.
- Don’t overpack a box! Put packaging material around the perimeter so items do not break on impact.
- Make sure you use enough cushioning material to ensure that the contents do not move when you shake the package.
How do we ensure that the results from the boxes sent are tracked back to the associated office?
The Shipping Details form contains the office information for packages being sent to be tracked back to the associated office.
How long does it take to receive our office results?
You will be alerted of your office results at the end of each quarter.
How much is our stuff worth?
You decide, just as you do if you make charitable donations to any local charity, what you think the value of your donation (e.g., clothes, furniture, car, etc.) is.
How much does The Actuarial Foundation get?
The amounts will depend on the age, condition, and upcycle value of whatever is donated. Virescent inspects and determines whether parts or whole items are salvageable and gets whatever value is possible out of them.
Does the Academy profit?
No, the program is set up so that The Actuarial Foundation will get half the upcycle value. Virescent gets the other half.
Will you report on money realized?
Yes, the Academy will get reports from Virescent and tell the membership how much is being realized.
Do I/we have to be a member of the Academy to donate?
No, anyone who wants to serve the goal of supporting lifelong math education can do so through the Academy’s custom program with Virescent.
