John Purple
Highlights
During this time, John Purple was active on numerous committees and task forces of the National
Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Purple represented Connecticut on the Life and
Health Actuarial Task Force, the Capital Adequacy Task Force, and the Casualty Actuarial and
Statistical Task Force, on which he served as chairperson for the past seven years. Under his
leadership the task force developed the Actuarial Opinion Summary Model Law and the Medical
Professional Liability Closed Claim Reporting Model Law.
Before joining the Connecticut Insurance Department, Purple was a consulting actuary with
Anderson Worldwide, now the Accenture Group. He started his actuarial career with Aetna Life &
Casualty, where he worked for more than 20 years and earned the title of vice president and actuary
in its commercial lines division. Purple became a member of the American Academy of Actuaries in
1979.
