Former HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius Addresses 2014 Annual Meeting and Public Policy Forum

Watch this video of former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ opening keynote remarks at the Academy’s Annual Meeting and Public Policy Forum on Nov. 13, 2014. Sebelius thanked the actuarial profession for its critical work while she served as secretary (2009-2014) and at the state level in Kansas, where she served as insurance commissioner from 1995 to 2003 and as governor from 2003 to 2009. She also acknowledged the Academy’s work in the health policy arena, and shared insights on important trends in improving quality of care and lowering costs. Sebelius concluded, “[T]he work that you are able to do with not only an analysis of trends and issues, but looking and forecasting into the future, will be more important than it has ever been, because we are on a new horizon.”
