Capitol Hill Briefing—The National Flood Insurance Program: Challenges and Solutions
June 26, 2017
188 Russell Senate Office Building
Noon–1 p.m. EDT
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is up for reauthorization this year, with the program set to expire on Sept. 30, 2017. Join the American Academy of Actuaries for a Capitol Hill briefing that will examine key issues surrounding the NFIP as Congress considers changes to the program this summer.
In April, the American Academy of Actuaries released a report, The National Flood Insurance Program: Challenges and Solutions, which covered a wide range of approaches to the NFIP and the private flood insurance market, and discussed the fundamental differences between them. This briefing will feature authors of the report who will deliver an objective, non-partisan overview of the flood insurance program and proposed reforms. Topics they will address include the NFIP debt, future solvency of the program, rates, coverage, mega-storms, and the impact of rising sea levels.
Lunch will be available.
