Academy Membership Renewal
November 7, 2018
Dear Academy Member:
On behalf of the American Academy of Actuaries, I very much appreciate your continuing membership. With the year drawing to a close, it is time to renew your membership for 2019.
The Academy Board has decided on a modest increase in dues for 2019, bringing the full regular dues rate to $675. This will ensure that the Academy’s financial position remains strong as we continue to work on behalf of our members and the public by providing the U.S. actuarial profession’s objective voice through nonpartisan actuarial analysis to policymakers in the United States.
Last week, I had the honor of having the presidential mantle passed to me by Immediate Past President Steve Alpert at the Academy’s Annual Meeting. This provided me an opportunity to reflect on the Academy’s strong history of objectivity and impartiality.
Since its founding in 1965, the Academy’s mission has remained consistent—to serve the public and the United States actuarial profession. The Academy, by nature of its faithfulness to its founding principles, has assured the enduring relevance and credibility of the U.S. actuarial profession to all those who rely on our services, whether they be regulators, insurers and pension plans, policyholders and pension beneficiaries, or the general public.
Please take a moment to review some of the Academy’s mission-critical work in 2018. “The Meaning of Your Membership” features key issues the Academy has addressed in public policy and professionalism this past year.
And we will continue to address these issues into 2019. With a newly elected Congress, governors, and insurance commissioners, the Academy is poised to assist policymakers by providing objective, nonpartisan analysis of actuarial components of retirement security and insurance issues.
On behalf of the Academy Board and staff, I want to sincerely thank you for your continued membership and dedication to the Academy’s mission to serve the U.S. actuarial profession and the public. The Academy looks forward to serving you in 2019.
Sincerely,
Shawna Ackerman
President, American Academy of Actuaries
