2013 Petition Process For Regular Director Election
2013 Petition Process For Regular Director Election
The Academy board decided this January to renew for one more year a petition process to allow Academy members to nominate candidates to open regular director seats on the Academy board. While it is the Academy board’s strong preference that those who want to be considered for regular director openings undergo the full due diligence provided by the Nominating Committee’s regular process, a petition process allows Academy members to nominate other candidates to the Nominating Committee for consideration. In addition, this year, the ballot for regular director submitted to Academy members will indicate which candidates are Nominating Committee candidates and which candidates are petition candidates.
Petitions must comply with the following rules:
- All candidate petitions must be accompanied by a completed and signed Candidate Statement form.
- Please see the guidelines utilized by the Nominating Committee for selection of regular director candidates to the Academy board.
- Only one candidate seeking nomination as a Candidate for Regular Director on the Academy Board of Directors per petition.
- Candidates for Regular Director on the Academy Board of Directors cannot be under investigation by the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline (ABCD) or any other disciplinary authority. Candidates for Regular Director on the Academy Board of Directors cannot have been publicly or privately disciplined by any actuarial organization.
- Minimum number of signatures of Academy members required for petition to be considered by Nominating Committee: 1% of the total Academy membership by July 1, 2013, or 178.
- No more than 25% of petition signers can work for the same employer.
- All petition signers must be members of the Academy, including but not limited to dues for the current year being paid in full, as of the date of this petition.
- To be valid, this petition must be received by the Nominating Committee at the offices of the American Academy of Actuaries on or before 5:00 pm eastern on Monday, July 29, 2013.
- For purposes of meeting the above deadline, properly executed forms may be transmitted to the Nominating Committee at the offices of the American Academy of Actuaries via mail, facsimile, or email before 5:00 pm on Monday, July 29, 2013.
- Original signatures will be accepted on forms; facsimile or digital signatures will be accepted, subject to verification by the Academy.
- Multiple copies of this form may be executed and submitted in support of the candidacy of one Academy member.
- All fields (printed name, signature, name of employer, verification of Academy membership) must be legible and verifiable, and all fields must be completed for each signor for a petitioner’s signature to be counted toward the required 178 signatures from members, of which no more than 25% can originate from a single employer.
