Expert Panel Discusses Terrorism and Cyber Insurance Modeling and Underwriting Challenges
July 16, 2024 | Noon to 1:30 p.m. EDT
ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
The U.S. Treasury’s Federal Insurance Office (FIO) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) initiated a new Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) that will stimulate research and develop solutions to provide insurers, government, and other stakeholders with additional data and improved modeling and underwriting tools, methodologies, and practices for insuring terrorism and catastrophic cyber risks. FIO and NSF released a request for research proposals in April 2024.
To inform academic teams interested in submitting a proposal and risk managers interested in potentially supporting the research, the American Academy of Actuaries will hosted a panel of terrorism and cyber insurance experts to discuss challenges in the current market and potential areas for research and improvement in modeling and underwriting. Academy Committee on Cyber Risk Chairperson Wanchin Chou, along with FIO Director Steven Seitz, opened the discussion. Chanda Brady, an FIO Senior Insurance Regulatory Policy Analyst, moderated the panel.
