Looking Back, Moving Forward: ERISA at 50
The Origins and Evolution of ERISA: 1974 to 2024
May 14, 2024 | Noon to 1:30 p.m. EDT
ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
It’s been fifty years since the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) was enacted. As we mark this anniversary, the Academy kicked off its “Looking Back, Moving Forward: ERISA at 50” series with a webinar exploring the history of ERISA from conception through today. Our speakers discussed its framework, shared “present-at-creation" stories and historical insights, and provided an overview of the subsequent evolution of the system up to date. They described ERISA at its outset and its subsequent evolution, focusing on the intent of policymakers and the practical consequences of implementation.
