Nominating Committee Guidelines
The Nominating Committee strives each year to nominate actuaries who contribute to the Board’s overall balance by specialty, business affiliation, employer, and additional attributes, as laid out in § II of the Nominating Committee Guidelines.
Following the Board's election of slate of officers at its annual meeting in October and the selection by Academy members in September of the slate of member-selected directors presented to them by the Nominating Committee, the distribution of Board members for the 2024-2025 year is as follows:

Member-Selected Director Selection Process Has Concluded
Thank you to Academy members who took part in the member-selected directors selection process, which concluded Wednesday, Sept. 18. The new member-selected directors, who will begin three-year terms in November, will be Steve Armstrong, Stephen Koca, and Eric Keener.

Member-Selected Directors Selection Process Underway
Academy members as of Aug. 16, 2024, are eligible to select member-selected director candidates until Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 11:59 p.m. EDT, and should have received a Sept. 4 email from our vendor, Intelliscan. Members without a valid email address will receive a paper ballot in the mail. Please contact Keith Wier at Intelliscan (kwier@intelliscaninc.com) with any technical questions about your ballot.

Member-Selected Director Nominees Announced
Three Academy volunteers have been selected by the Nominating Committee to serve as member-selected directors on the Board of Directors, with three-year terms beginning in November:
▶ Steve Armstrong (Casualty) has been a member of the P/C Committee on Equity and Fairness since its inception and serves on the Automobile Insurance Committee, the ASOP No. 12 Task Force, and the Volunteer Engagement Subcommittee. A past president of the Casualty Actuarial Society, Armstrong is also a board member of the Sexuality and Gender Alliance of Actuaries (SAGAA).
▶ Stephen Koca (Casualty) is chairperson of the Committee on Property and Liability Financial Reporting (COPLFR), which prepares three major offerings each year—the annual P/C opinion practice note, the Seminar on Effective P/C Loss Reserve Opinions, and the P/C Loss Reserve Law Manual. Koca is also a past member of the Workers’ Compensation Committee.
▶ Eric Keener (Retirement) chaired the Retirement Policy and Design Evaluation Committee and drove the Academy’s series of policy documents on national retirement income. A member of the U.S.-based actuarial organizations’ collaborative Intersector Group, Keener has also moderated and participated in many Academy webinars and has been active in the annual “Hill visits” and meetings with federal lawmakers and regulators.
The Academy’s online selection of candidates by members will take place Sept. 4–18.

Nominate Academy Member-Selected Directors
Nominations will be accepted beginning May 1 for Academy member-selected directors, who will serve three-year terms on the Academy’s Board of Directors. Nominations will be due by June 3. The Nominating Committee will meet soon to identify new candidates in accordance with Nominating Committee Guidelines criteria. Member-selected director candidates will be selected by Academy members later in 2024 in an online selection process from the slate of candidates presented by the Nominating Committee.
