Actuarial Update Highlights Board Outlook, Annual COI/CE Acknowledgments

The January Actuarial Update leads with the Academy Board of Directors’ 2024 priorities, including member- and employer-value initiatives and the evolving role of membership requirements, DEI initiatives, and the Pension Practice Council’s name change to the Retirement Practice Council. Also, it’s time for Academy volunteers and interested parties to submit annual COI/CE acknowledgments, the Academy engaged with actuarial students from Canada and Mexico, and the “Professionalism Counts” column took a deep dive on the ASOP No. 7 exposure draft, for which comments are due June 1.

New Actuary Voices Features IABA Past President Monique Hacker

Public Policy in Focus

  • The Economic Scenario Generator Subcommittee submitted comments to the Life Actuarial Task Force (LATF) on the Dec. 12 exposure of the updated Generator of Economic Scenarios (GOES) Targeting Criteria and Evaluation Statistics.

  • The Life Valuation Committee submitted a comment letter to the Life Actuarial Task Force (LATF) on the re-exposure of APF 2023-12 concerning equity return volatility in VM-30 cash-flow testing.

  • The Public Plans Committee released Introduction to Service Purchases for Public Pension Plans, a practice note considering a variety of service purchase programs that can be found across public-sector pension plans, as well as plan administration topics that actuaries should be aware of when working with them.
