The Council on Professionalism encourages actuaries to achieve and maintain a high level of professionalism in their practice. It coordinates its activities with two boards that operate independently and serve the U.S. profession: the ASB and the ABCD.

This June 17 webinar, sponsored by the Academy's Council on Professionalism, and co-sponsored by ASPPA, CAS, CCA, and SOA, provided a general review of the U.S. Qualification Standards, examined some of the more complicated questions raised since the implementation of the revised standards, and discussed the SOA's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Requirement.
Council Submits Letter on MHPAEA
The Council submits a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services in connection with the interim final rules under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 and its use of the terms "qualified and licensed" actuary who is a "member in good standing" of the Academy.
Letter to the North Carolina Department of Insurance
The Academy writes to the North Carolina Department of Insurance regarding the Department's proposal to change the definition of "qualified actuary."

Applicability Guidelines
The previously published applicability
guidelines
have been updated by the Council on Professionalism, with the
assistance of the Academy's practice councils, to reflect changes to
existing actuarial standards of practice (ASOPs), additions of new
ASOPs, and elimination of repealed ASOPs, through December 2009. The
applicability guidelines provide actuaries with nonauthoritative
guidance as to which actuarial standards of practice might apply to
them as they perform certain tasks in their actuarial roles.
Webcast on RDS attestations
This March 24 webcast, sponsored by the Academy's Council on Professionalism and Health Practice Council, and co-sponsored by the ASPPA, CAS, CCA, and SOA, provided basic information regarding applicable qualification standards to be considered by actuaries, and addressed the more common issues related to providing RDS attestations.
