Call To Action

  • Choose to Lead: There’s still time for academy members to nominate themselves or others for consideration as an Academy regular director.
  • Academy Volunteers: Take action now to acknowledge the conflict of interest policy and continuing education requirements, which is required every year for Academy members who serve on Academy boards, councils, committees, subcommittees, task forces, and work groups. Log in to the members-only page and follow instructions there.

Member Alerts

  • Health Insurance Issues: The Department of Health and Human Services released several high profile rules implementing provisions in the Affordable Care Act. Log in to read the full alert.

Opportunities to Learn

  • All Actuaries: Register now for the March 28 Professionalism webinar on risk evaluation and risk treatment in enterprise risk management. It is essential for actuaries to understand how ERM plays a role in professional responsibilities and what standards they should follow. Find out what you need to know as presenters review two newly adopted actuarial standards of practices (ASOP Nos. 46 and 47) relating to ERM. The effective date for both ASOPs is May 1.
  • Mark Your Calendars: The Nov. 11–14 Life and Health Qualifications Seminar offers state- and country-specific basic education that may not have been provided as part of the Society of Actuaries examination process or acquired through subsequent testing or alternative education. It also can serve as a basic education refresher or as a source of continuing education for more experienced actuaries as required under the specific U.S. Qualification Standards.

Newly Released

  • March/April Contingencies: Read about protecting the U.S. power grid from solar squalls, health care reform shifting to the states, predictive modeling transforming the insurance industry, and more. Plus, the Actuarial JobSeeker supplement features articles on the growing demand for actuaries with predictive modeling skills and how to access the overseas actuarial job market.
