  • The Health Practice Council Communications Committee published a new Campaign 2012 voter guide, A Guide to Analyzing the Issues: Medicare Premium Support, to help voters understand what premium support is and the potential implications of shifting Medicare to a premium support program.   • The Rate Review Practice Note Work Group released a new practice note on the preparation, review, and disclosure of rate filings under the Affordable Care Act. Log in to read the full member alert.
  • The International Accounting Standards Task Force sent comments to the International Accounting Standards Board on its two working drafts, Feedback on the premium-allocation approach decisions and Feedback on the Non-Insurance Components, and on measuring earned premium under the building block approach.
  • The Actuarial Guideline 43/C-3 Phase II Work Group submitted a report to the NAIC with ideas for a review process of Actuarial Guideline 43 and C-3 Phase II.

  • The Academy is looking forward to seeing its members at the Oct. 15 Academy Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon. The Academy will transition presidential leadership from Dave Sandberg to Cecil Bykerk, announce winners of the annual awards, and hear from keynote speaker Stu Rothenberg.
  • Actuaries who complete actuarial certifications for LTCI policy forms: Don’t miss the Oct. 31 webinar, Understanding LTC Rate Stability. Presenters will provide important information for pricing actuaries when completing an actuarial certification related to pricing long-term care insurance policy forms under the rate stability provisions of the NAIC’s Long-Term Care Model Regulation.
  • Discounted registration ends Oct. 15 for the P/C Effective Loss Reserve Opinion Seminar—Tools for the Appointed Actuary (Nov. 7–8). This seminar is essential for actuaries who write P/C loss reserve opinions and who want to stay up to date on regulations and standards applicable in drafting loss reserve opinions.
  • Registration must be received no later than Oct. 26 for the Life and Health Qualifications Seminar (Nov. 12–15). This seminar is the primary source of instruction for actuaries who wish to be qualified to issue actuarial opinions for either the NAIC Life and A&H Annual Statement or the NAIC Health Annual Statement.
