Asbestos Issues and Trends
American Academy of Actuaries
Capitol Hill Briefing
April 7, 2004

Above, participants listen to the panelists.

The Academy's April 7 Capitol Hill briefing focused on the implications of the deluge in personal-injury asbestos claims.

The speakers were Jennifer Biggs, chairperson of the Academy's Mass Torts Subcommittee, and and Raji Bhagavatula, a member of the subcommittee. The moderator was Jan Lommele, vice president for casualty issues. Questions from the congressional staffers, policy-makers, and reporters largely concerned a Senate proposal to change the asbestos litigation system.
